FISHING AT CABO ABOARD THE CHARTER

April 29, 2005, Art Coleman, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

I just got back from my first Cabo San Lucas fishing trip. I have fished La Paz for many years and never got around to making a trip to Cabo. My son Brent and I fished with the Gaviota Fleet, on the Gaviota IX, on the 24th, 25th and 26th. What a trip! I can't say enough about Capt. Julio Torres. I have never had a captain work so hard to get us on the fish.

We baited I would say about 25 fish in the three days, but due to the fact that there was so much squid in the area they just would not bite. But what a thrill chasing them down. It was beautiful. Anyway, to make a long story short, my son and I both got our first marlin, due to the hard work of Capt. Julio. I landed a 125 pound striper and my son landed a 140 pound striper. Both were released. I can't say enough about the crew and the service from the Gaviota Fleet.

The sea temperature was 74 degrees, and the air temperature 90. We fished on the Cortez side, 3 to 6 miles off San Jose del Cabo in the Gordo Bank area, with light wind early in the morning, maybe 5 to 6 knots, bright sun all day.

We fished about 3 miles off shore and saw lots of stripers. We baited about 25 but only got the 2 to go after the bait. My son got his on a live bait and I got mine on a trolled dead bait.
